Final Reflection

My experiences with this class have been mostly positive ones. Quarantine aside, this class has helped me be more comfortable with selling, whether it was selling myself with my positive attributes or selling a product or business idea. In the past, I tried to avoid elevator speeches and determined that the employer who wanted me would see through a silly memorized speech and there was more to being candid with someone. I still believe in being candid but I can also prepare certain elevator snip-its instead.
The assignment that sticks out the most would be knowing your worth. Asking some of my oldest friends what they thought of me was at first embarrassing. I found myself apologizing for wasting their time for an assignment. However, by the 3rd person I realized that they were happy to do this for me and really enjoyed talking about me and how I affected their lives. Honestly, it was nice to hear! I was also proud of my elevator pitches. I feel more comfortable with recording myself.
I believe at the end of the semester I am not someone who has the entrepreneurial mindset but I do think I am able to see and understand the mindset more. I order to work in New Product Development, I believe that understanding the entrepreneur is very important: what they want to achieve, how they are funding themselves, and their 5 year plan are all important factors for how they will do business.
My recommendation for future students is to not rush these assignments. They are not difficult but you get out whatever you put into it. Be open minded and watch the lectures not just for the cupcakes, but for how this could relate to your life in the future.

  1. Orlan, great post. I can tell that you have learned a lot through this process. I have really enjoyed seeing how you (and the other members of this class) developed your ideas over time. I think you have some great observations about the course here. Conducting interviews was not the easiest for me, but it gave me a ton of great information to use in refining my business idea.
